I'm suffering through spate of downtime with my hosting company (Valueweb). Do you have any recommendations for a new host?
Posted by Tim Porter at March 16, 2004 05:53 AMI've been very happy with Hosting Matters (http://www.hostingmatters.com/). I have two sites hosted there (both accounts have Movable Type blogs). You get a lot for your money, and they're service is very responsive. Several other big-name bloggers use them, including Instapundit. They were down for a day last year, but that was because of a massive denial-of-service attack directed at one of their customers. And even with that, they offered to credit customers for the downtime. Most people refused. I've also heard good things about Hurricane (www.he.net), which is Fremont.
Posted by: Michael Bazeley on March 16, 2004 07:00 AMI go with a little company called Blogomania.com ... it's $10 a month and the site has all the required Moveable Type stuff. I've had very good luck ... if something goes wrong I e-mail the person who owns the company and she fixes it.

Blogomania is a reseller of Hosting Matters service. Same product, different packaging.
Posted by: Michael Bazeley on March 16, 2004 09:02 AMInteresting: hostingmatters' web site says the service I pay 10 bucks for costs 16 if you buy it through them.
Looks like you're getting a good deal then, Tom. My numbers may be a little off, but I think HM's resellers get the HM hosting plans for about $5 and then are free to resell them at any price they wish. But that's probably more info than Tim was seeking. Bottom line: it's good service no matter how you get it.
Posted by: MIchael Bazeley on March 16, 2004 10:52 AMI second the advice on Hosting Matters. I use it (after a disastrous host before); Glenn Reynolds does; so do many bloggers.
Posted by: Jeff Jarvis on March 16, 2004 12:10 PMa little late with this, but I host with SpinWeb Net Designs. They're a little on the pricey side, but their service is terrific. If you contact them, tell 'em kpaul sent ya ;)
best,
